Measurements from your captures

Science features measure information such as star shapes, gradients, sky noise and photometry as frames arrive. Version 8.1 runs measurements in the background and accounts for each frame’s camera gain and read noise.

Measurements depend on valid metadata, a usable image, a suitable solve and the calibration needed by that workflow. Check the quality assessment for failed solves, poor frames or missing calibration.

First Light

First Light compares same-filter, star-flux-scaled references with new frames, checks artifacts and subtraction quality, and seeks confirmation across frames. Review detections against the original frames before reporting them.

Read rejected-scan explanations, compare the original images, and look for registration residuals, variable seeing, saturated stars and detector artifacts before interpreting a candidate as an astronomical change.

Moving objects and photometry

Moving-object detections can be linked in sky coordinates and exported in MPC 80-column or ADES PSV formats for review. Photometry includes comparison-star ensembles, per-filter zero points and differential AAVSO export paths.

Check the receiving organization’s submission requirements. Review timing, coordinates, calibration, comparison stars and uncertainties before submission.

Your Sky

Your Sky records field coverage and contributions. Version 8.1 separates filters, improves WCS placement and duplicate counting, and updates remote maps incrementally. Atlas processing can be enabled or disabled in settings.

Updating the app does not automatically repair old Science records or previously folded rejected atlas contributions. Review historical data separately when comparing results across versions.
